MDR/MDK Wiring Recomendations
Please note that Cat5 [Cat 6] are not suitable for installing MDR/MDK units.
Although the cable is rated AWG 24 (conductor area > 0.2mm2), the twisted pairs and thin conductor insulation causes significant cross-talk that causes data transmission problems which affects the detection, operation and firmware upgrades of the MDR units. Due to the cables nominal DC resistance the voltage drop is too great for the MDR to work at our specified maximum distance.
Please be advised that Cat 5 cable is specifically designed for Ethernet and its high speed communications using differential pairs.
Recommended Cable (or equivalent)
West Penn
Note: cable is non-plenum, AWG22.
